Morgan Lyle is a contributing writer for Field & Stream. He has been a serious fly fisherman since the mid-1980s, mostly fishing the trout streams and saltwater beaches of New York and the Northeast. He’s written two books and dozens of magazine articles on fly fishing, covering news, conservation, tackle, technique, people, and places. Lyle has been proud to contribute to Field & Stream for two years.

Experience

Lyle began writing a weekly column on fly fishing for The Daily Gazette of Schenectady, New York, in 1996, and began contributing articles to national fly-fishing magazines around the same time. He’s been a communications professional since 1990, working as a newspaper reporter, university public relations specialist, and retail copywriter in addition to freelance writing for publications including The New York Times and Newsday. Lyle’s first book, Simple Flies: 52 Easy-to-Tie Patterns That Catch Fish, was published by Stackpole Books in 2015; Tenkara Today, also published by Stackpole, came out in 2019. Lyle has been a speaker at numerous Trout Unlimited chapter and fly-fishing club meetings over the years, and has served as the master of ceremonies for the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum’s Hall of Fame.

Education

Lyle has a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Long Island University.
